Where it came from
The Ninjago Sheath with Snake Sword (set 850455-1) was released by the LEGO Group in 2012 as an accessory pack intended to enhance role-play experiences for fans of the Ninjago theme. The set was marketed as a costume accessory, allowing children to physically embody the motifs of the popular ninja-versus-serpentine narrative that dominated the toy line during the Rise of the Snakes arc.
The design draws heavily from the aesthetic of the Hypnobrai snake tribe, featuring a plastic scabbard decorated with serpent-like motifs and a corresponding foam sword. It reflects the company’s effort to expand their intellectual property beyond traditional brick-built construction sets into the realm of imaginative play gear. It was generally received as a modest, character-driven supplement for young fans rather than a collectible aimed at adult builders.
