Where it came from
The LEGO Friends Panda Sanctuary, set 42648-1, was released in 2024 as part of the ongoing Friends line, which was reimagined in 2023 to feature a more diverse cast of characters and more complex, inclusive narratives. Designed to foster imaginative play centered around environmental conservation and animal care, the set reflects the theme's shift toward depicting modern, socially-conscious hobbies and career paths for children.
The aesthetic of the set follows the vibrant, saturated color palette characteristic of the post-2023 Friends reboot, utilizing a specialized modular building style. It was received by the community as a functional, nature-themed addition to the Heartlake City ecosystem, praised for its focus on habitat recreation and its integration of the newer, more detailed Friends mini-dolls.
