Where it came from
Released in 2016 as part of the LEGO Friends line, the Party Gift Shop set was designed to capture the social, creative spirit of the Heartlake City subtheme. Targeted at children aged 6 to 12, the set reflects the line's focus on friendship-based roleplay, featuring a modular storefront with a rotating gift display, a balloon stand, and a small area for a party pet. Its design follows the consistent aesthetic of the Friends series, utilizing a soft pastel color palette and unique mini-doll figures that depart from traditional LEGO minifigures.
The set was produced to provide an affordable, accessible entry point into the LEGO Friends ecosystem, emphasizing themes of celebration and gift-giving. Critics of the broader Friends theme often noted the move toward specialized building pieces, but the set was generally well-received within its target demographic for its playability and thematic cohesion with other sets in the 2016 wave, such as the Party Cakes and Party Bakery models.
