Where it came from
Released in 2012 as part of the initial launch of the Lego Friends theme, the Become a Star set (561509-1) was designed to introduce the Heartlake City collection to a broader audience. As a promotional polybag released during the theme's debut year, it served as an accessible entry point that highlighted the narrative-driven, character-focused play patterns that defined the Friends line. The set features a small stage setup, reflecting the series' emphasis on hobbies and creative pursuits as a central component of the girls' daily lives.
The aesthetic of the set follows the distinct design language established for the Friends theme, utilizing a brighter color palette—specifically teals, purples, and pinks—that diverged from standard Lego color schemes of the era. The set was illustrated and engineered to showcase the new mini-doll figure format, which replaced the traditional minifigure to provide more realistic proportions. Upon its release, the theme was met with significant market success, effectively diversifying the company's appeal by emphasizing social interaction and domestic play scenarios.
