Where it came from
Released in 1975, the Police Action set 3607-1 represents an early chapter in the Playmobil brand's expansion beyond its initial core themes. Emerging from the innovative work of designer Hans Beck, whose vision focused on small, ergonomic figures designed to fit comfortably in a child's hand, this set helped establish the company's reputation for thematic realism and modular play in the mid-1970s.
The design of the set reflects the period's commitment to clean, functional aesthetics that prioritized playability over excessive detail. By focusing on a standard police officer character paired with basic, versatile accessories, the set embodied the 'small world' philosophy that defined the early Playmobil catalog. It was well-received by European consumers for its durability and the consistency of its scale, which allowed children to combine it seamlessly with the broader range of early sets.
