Where it came from
The 621-1 Police Car was released in 1976 as part of the early expansion of the Legoland building system. Developed during a transitional period for the company, this set embodied the minimalist design language of the era, focusing on iconic, recognizable shapes rather than complex assembly. It captured the mid-1970s aesthetic of European municipal vehicles and was aimed at children who were just beginning to explore the modular possibilities of the system.
The design was characteristic of the era's reliance on a limited color palette and standard brick geometries. By utilizing a simple chassis and a basic blue-and-white color scheme, the designers prioritized structural sturdiness and ease of play. At the time of its release, the set was well-regarded for its functional simplicity and played a foundational role in establishing the long-running city-themed sub-collections that became a hallmark of the brand.
