Where it came from
The LEGO City Police Station, set 7498, was released in 2011 as a flagship addition to the long-running City theme. It was designed to provide a modern update to the classic police station archetype, incorporating contemporary features such as a transport van and a more modular architectural aesthetic. The set reflects the design language of the early 2010s, focusing on playability through integrated jail cells, a command center, and a multi-vehicle garage.
Development of this set prioritized the inclusion of more detailed minifigures and expanded accessory kits, a hallmark of the era's City line. As a staple of the retail landscape during its production, the set was well-received by fans for its balanced build and roleplay potential, effectively bridging the gap between earlier, more simplified structures and the highly detailed modular sets that would follow in subsequent years.
