Where it came from
The LEGO PreSchool Set, numbered 75-1, was released in 1975 as part of an early attempt by the LEGO Group to capture the interest of the youngest demographic. Developed during a period when the company was expanding its reach into specialized age-targeted products, this set provided a simplified building experience that moved away from the complex locking systems of standard bricks. Its design philosophy centered on safety and accessibility, utilizing larger, chunkier elements that were intended to be easier for toddlers to grasp and manipulate during play.
The set featured a brightly colored, minimalist design that prioritized basic shape recognition and tactile exploration over intricate construction. While it was intended to serve as a foundational introduction to the brand, it was met with a modest reception compared to the more iconic System sets. As an experimental precursor to the eventual launch of the Duplo brand, it remains a notable, if obscure, relic of the company's efforts to diversify its product offerings during the mid-1970s.
