Where it came from
Released in 1975, the PreSchool Set (77-1) represents an early endeavor by the company to capture the youngest demographic of builders. Designed as a standalone educational tool, it emerged during a decade where the manufacturer was expanding its portfolio beyond standard construction bricks to create specialized developmental toys. The set was conceived to facilitate motor skill refinement, utilizing larger, chunky elements that prioritized safety and ease of manipulation for toddlers.
The design aesthetic reflects the bold, primary-colored minimalism characteristic of mid-1970s toy manufacturing. By focusing on simplified, tactile components, the designers aimed to provide an intuitive experience that encouraged basic pattern recognition and color sorting. While it preceded the more formalized branding of later preschool-specific lines, this set established the foundational design philosophy that would eventually inform the creation of larger, more specialized systems for the early childhood market.
