Where it came from
The Prisoner Transport set was released in 2005 as part of the LEGO City theme, a line designed to capture the everyday experiences of urban life through buildable emergency, construction, and public service vehicles. The set was created to expand the role-play potential of the City police sub-theme, providing a dedicated vehicle to secure and move minifigure suspects between the precinct and the jailhouse.
The design follows the utilitarian aesthetic characteristic of mid-2000s LEGO sets, utilizing a sturdy truck chassis and a modular transport bay. It was conceptualized to be compact yet functional, featuring a rear opening door and a gated cell interior. Upon its release, it was well-received by collectors for its straightforward play features and its inclusion in the broader narrative of the City police force, serving as a staple civilian-focused set within the police station ecosystem.
