Where it came from
The Race Car Guy, designated as item 71021-13, was released in 2018 as part of the LEGO Minifigures Series 18, a collection specifically curated to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the classic LEGO minifigure design. This particular figure represents a thematic continuation of the company's long-standing tradition of producing automotive-themed characters, evoking the aesthetic of vintage soapbox derbies and early motor racing culture with its signature helmet and checkered racing suit.
The character was designed by the LEGO creative team to capture a sense of nostalgic play, utilizing a custom-molded helmet piece that reflects the design language of mid-century racing gear. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by the adult collector community for its vibrant color palette and the inclusion of a specialized display stand, solidifying its place within the broader series as a representative of the toy line's enduring commitment to playful, character-driven storytelling.
