Where it came from
The LEGO Monkie Kid theme, which includes the Red Son's Inferno Truck (set 80011), was launched in 2020 as an ambitious effort to engage the Chinese market through a cultural narrative rooted in the 16th-century classical novel Journey to the West. The theme reimagines the legendary Monkey King lore within a high-tech, futuristic urban setting, aiming to bridge traditional folklore with contemporary play patterns that appeal to a global audience.
The Inferno Truck design reflects the fiery nature of the antagonist Red Son, incorporating a bold color palette of red and gold with industrial-inspired mechanical details. It features a sophisticated modular construction that allows for a transforming play experience, integrating projectile launchers and a detachable race car. Upon its release, the set was praised by reviewers for its dynamic build and its successful synthesis of classic mythology with the aesthetic sensibilities of modern action-oriented building sets.
