Where it came from
The LEGO Friends Rehearsal Stage, set number 41004-1, was released in 2013 as part of the initial expansion of the Friends theme, which LEGO introduced in 2012 to offer a more character-driven building experience. The set was designed to capture the creative pursuits of Stephanie, the included mini-doll, and provided a compact, modular environment that allowed for interactive play features like a rotating stage and a spinning microphone stand.
The aesthetic of this set is defined by the vibrant color palette and soft curves characteristic of the Friends line, moving away from the traditional blocky geometry of classic LEGO sets. It was developed during a period when the company was refining the mini-doll system, which was intended to be more compatible with role-playing scenarios than the standard minifigure. The set was well-received by fans of the theme for its specific focus on performance art and its inclusion of unique accessories like a guitar and a music sheet.
