Road Construction Set

Released in 1977 as part of the broader early Legoland town series, the Road Construction Set (780-1) was designed to expand the playability of the fledgling modular city theme. It provided essential accessories for urban dioramas, reflecting the brand's shift toward realistic, non-fantasy building experiences that mirrored daily civic infrastructure. The set included basic brick-built elements representing construction equipment, which allowed children to engage in role-play scenarios involving road maintenance and building development.

The design of set 780-1 leaned into the functional, minimalist aesthetic characteristic of the late 1970s. While designers of this era focused on utility and simple geometry, the set was well-received by hobbyists for its inclusion of specialized road plates and utilitarian accessories. It remains a notable example of the supplementary sets that laid the groundwork for the modern, highly detailed city themes developed in later decades.
