Where it came from
The LEGO City Sailboat, set number 60438, was released in 2024 as part of the long-standing City theme. This sub-collection focuses on accessible, realistic nautical vehicles designed to integrate into modern harbor and waterfront dioramas. The set reflects the design language of contemporary LEGO City sets, which prioritize playability and modularity, offering a compact build that captures the recognizable aesthetic of a recreational racing sailboat.
The model features a rotating mast and a printed sail element, moving away from traditional cloth sails to provide a more durable and rigid structure for younger builders. Designed by the in-house LEGO City team, the set aims to emphasize active play through its inclusion of a captain minifigure and a dolphin figure. It was received as a straightforward, well-proportioned addition to the City theme, valued for its minimalist design and ability to float in water.
