Where it came from
Released in the early 1990s, the Science and Technology Base Set (9632-1) was developed as part of a specialized educational series designed for classroom environments. It served as a foundational component for students to explore mechanical principles through hands-on construction, reflecting a shift in educational strategy toward modular, problem-based learning in STEM fields.
The set features a pragmatic design centered on versatility, prioritizing functional gears, pulleys, and structural elements over aesthetic ornamentation. It was received primarily by educational institutions as a reliable tool for teaching basic physics and engineering, gaining a reputation for durability and utility rather than collector-grade presentation.
