Shrek, Donkey & Gingy Figures

The Shrek, Donkey & Gingy figures, released under the set number 40923-1, were produced by the LEGO Group as part of a promotional tie-in celebrating the cultural phenomenon of the DreamWorks Animation film franchise. These figures were designed to capture the likenesses of the iconic trio—the cynical ogre, his talkative companion, and the resilient Gingerbread Man—utilizing the standard minifigure aesthetic to translate stylized animated characters into a tactile, brick-compatible format.

The set was developed during a period when the LEGO Group was expanding its collaborative partnerships with major film studios to broaden its demographic reach beyond traditional construction themes. The design process focused on utilizing specialized molds for the headpieces to ensure the characters remained recognizable while adhering to the physical constraints of the minifigure system. Upon release, the set was received as a charming collectible for fans of the films, noted primarily for the distinct character sculpting that marked a departure from more conventional, generic minifigure designs.
