Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots

This set, released in 2024 as part of the LEGO BrickHeadz line under the 72423-1 designation, features the iconic trio of Shrek, Donkey, and Puss in Boots. The release was designed to commemorate the enduring legacy of the DreamWorks Animation franchise, which began with the original film in 2001 and fundamentally shifted the tone of modern animated features by subverting traditional fairy tale tropes. The set adopts the signature blocky, oversized aesthetic of the BrickHeadz series, focusing on iconic character silhouettes rather than traditional minifigure scaling.

The character designs were developed to capture the distinct personalities of the protagonists, utilizing a limited color palette and specialized printed pieces to distinguish Shrek’s ogre features and Donkey’s expressive face. While this specific set operates as a licensed standalone tribute rather than an accompaniment to a larger play theme, it serves as a collector-focused display piece. Upon release, it was received favorably by fans of the films who had long awaited official LEGO representations of these specific characters, bridging the gap between nostalgic film fandom and contemporary collectible brick art.
