Where it came from
Released in 2015 as part of the LEGO Bionicle 'Protectors vs. Skull Villains' wave, the Skull Basher set (70793) represents a pivotal moment in the reboot of the Bionicle franchise. This line sought to modernize the original 2001 aesthetic, blending classic ball-and-socket construction techniques with the then-standard CCBS (Character and Creature Building System). The figure was designed to serve as a formidable antagonist, emphasizing an aggressive, skeletal mechanical design consistent with the dark, subterranean thematic arc of the 2015 story expansion.
The figure's aesthetic, characterized by its metallic dark-grey and lime-green color palette, was crafted to evoke a sense of ancient, reanimated power. It features a specialized 'battle bash' play function, which allows the figure's arms to swing in a striking motion. While the 2015 Bionicle revival was aimed at a new generation of builders, the design choices for characters like Skull Basher drew heavily from the mechanical complexity and modularity that defined the original Constraction themes, receiving praise for its sturdy build and distinct silhouette.
