Where it came from
The Skull Motorbike, released in 2010 as part of the inaugural wave of the Lego Ninjago theme, was designed to introduce the conflict between the ninja protagonists and the skeletal army of Lord Garmadon. This set, numbered 2259-1, was created during a pivotal period for Lego as the company sought to launch a new, character-driven intellectual property that blended traditional brick building with a narrative-heavy fantasy world, supported by a supporting television series.
The design of the bike reflects the necromantic aesthetic of the Skulkin faction, utilizing a color palette of black, metallic silver, and bone white to emphasize its menacing appearance. It was conceived by Lego designers to serve as a high-speed antagonistic vehicle, featuring a prominent skull-themed cowl and flame accents that became characteristic of the early Ninjago aesthetic. Upon release, the set was well-received by fans for its affordable price point and the inclusion of exclusive minifigures like Chopov and the ninja Jay, establishing a design language that would define the theme for years to come.
