Where it came from
Released in 1977, the 114-2 Small Train Set emerged during a period when the manufacturer was expanding its presence in the preschool construction toy market. Designed as a foundational building set, it provided a simple, modular introduction to locomotive assembly, reflecting the era’s focus on fostering basic motor skills and spatial reasoning through tactile play.
The design of the set reflects the minimalist aesthetic of late-seventies plastic construction toys, prioritizing structural simplicity and high-contrast color schemes to appeal to younger users. While it did not receive widespread critical analysis upon its debut, it has since been recognized by hobbyists for its role in the evolution of the manufacturer's early modular locomotive designs, serving as a precursor to more complex motorized systems.
