Where it came from
Released in 1969 as part of the Lego supplemental range, the Small Wheels set 058-1 represents a foundational era in brick design. During this period, the company was actively expanding its offerings to include specialized components that allowed for functional movement, moving beyond simple static builds to encourage dynamic play.
The design of these wheels reflected the minimalist aesthetic of late 1960s Lego, prioritizing versatility and modularity. They were engineered to clip onto standard plates, providing a universal solution for builders to motorize their creations. While simple in construction, the set was well-received by the hobbyist community for its role in enabling the development of more complex, mobile vehicle models.
