Where it came from
The LEGO Friends Smoothie Booth, released in 2012 as part of the initial launch of the Friends theme, was designed to introduce a more lifestyle-oriented, minifigure-scale play experience to the LEGO portfolio. The theme was developed over several years with extensive research into how young girls interacted with building toys, leading to the creation of the 'mini-doll' figure, which featured more realistic proportions and detailed features compared to the traditional blocky minifigure.
The set centers on the character Mia and is characterized by a bright, pastel color palette and detailed accessories such as blenders, fruit elements, and a small counter. It was designed to encourage role-playing scenarios focused on social interaction and creative activity. Upon release, the Friends line was met with both commercial success and critical discourse, as it represented a significant shift in LEGO’s marketing strategy toward demographic-specific play themes, ultimately becoming one of the company's most enduring and popular product lines.
