Soft Brick Activity Set

The LEGO Soft Brick Activity Set, released in 1999 as part of the Dacta educational line, was engineered specifically for early childhood development in preschool and kindergarten environments. Unlike the standard rigid ABS plastic bricks, these oversized elements were constructed from a dense, durable foam material designed to be lightweight, quiet, and safe for young children to handle. The set was intended to facilitate gross motor skill development and collaborative construction, allowing children to build structures on a human scale.

The design of the set prioritizes ergonomics and physical safety, reflecting the company's long-standing effort to bridge play with formal educational pedagogy. While the LEGO Dacta series was often less visible to the general consumer market than standard retail sets, it was highly regarded within pedagogical circles for its modular versatility. The reception was largely positive among educators who sought to integrate tactile building experiences into indoor classrooms without the noise or potential injury associated with larger traditional plastic blocks.
