Where it came from
Released in 2024 as part of the LEGO City Space exploration subtheme, the Space Science Mech (30694-1) was designed as a promotional polybag set. This subtheme was developed to capitalize on the renewed public and scientific interest in lunar and deep-space missions, offering a modular and accessible entry point for younger builders to engage with futuristic aerospace concepts. The design features a compact, articulated humanoid frame equipped with scanning equipment and a specialized laboratory workstation, emphasizing the role of robotics in extraterrestrial research.
The aesthetic of the set follows the established visual language of the 2024 LEGO City Space line, characterized by a bright orange and white color palette paired with high-visibility blue transparent elements. It was received as a practical companion piece to the larger, more complex space station and rover sets released in the same wave. By focusing on a single pilot-operated mech, the designers aimed to facilitate imaginative play scenarios centered on terrain exploration and scientific discovery, bridging the gap between traditional city-building and space-themed fantasy.
