Where it came from
The Spiders Set, released under the number 40021-1, was issued in 2002 as part of a promotional campaign for the theatrical release of the first Spider-Man film. It was distributed primarily through the LEGO System as a polybagged set, reflecting the era's trend of small, accessible tie-in collectibles that allowed fans to acquire recognizable characters in miniature form without committing to larger, more expensive playsets.
The design of the set focuses on a singular, posable Spider-Man minifigure accompanied by a simple web-launching mechanism. While the construction is rudimentary by modern standards, it captures the early aesthetic of the licensed character series, prioritizing playability for a younger audience over complex build techniques. The set remains a nostalgic entry point for collectors documenting the initial expansion of LEGO into major cinematic superhero properties.
