Where it came from
The Star Wars 20th Anniversary art print collection was released in 1997 to coincide with the Special Edition theatrical re-releases of the original trilogy. These prints were designed to capitalize on the renewed public interest in the franchise, serving as a commemorative nod to the milestone anniversary of the 1977 original film.
The artwork typically features illustrative compositions that evoke the classic cinematic posters of the late 1970s, utilizing bold, painterly aesthetics common to the era's merchandising. While the specific artists varied across the commemorative line, the collection was generally well-received by fans of the time for capturing the nostalgic tone of the series, effectively bridging the gap between original fans and the new generation of viewers introduced by the Special Editions.
