Where it came from
The U-wing, officially designated the UT-60D, was introduced as a central component of the 2016 Star Wars film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Designed as a versatile troop transport and gunship for the Rebel Alliance, the craft was intended to evoke the industrial, utilitarian aesthetic of the original trilogy while introducing a functional new silhouette to the franchise's expanding fleet.
LEGO released the construction set version to coincide with the film's theatrical debut as part of their broader tie-in product line. The design focuses on the ship's signature swing-wing mechanism, allowing builders to transition between its flight and combat configurations, reflecting the production's emphasis on balancing high-octane sci-fi mechanics with the tangible, grounded visual language established by the film's concept artists.
