Where it came from
Released in 2023, the Temple of the Golden Idol (77015-1) was designed as a sophisticated diorama for the adult collector market. It serves as a tribute to the opening sequence of the 1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark, specifically capturing the intricate booby traps and the climactic escape of Indiana Jones. The set represents a shift toward display-focused builds, emphasizing cinematic storytelling over traditional play features.
The design team utilized a vignette-style approach to encapsulate the temple interior, incorporating mechanical functions such as the iconic rolling boulder and the collapsing wall. By prioritizing aesthetic fidelity and interactive play functions that mimic the film's set pieces, the set received widespread acclaim from enthusiasts for its attention to detail and its successful translation of a singular movie moment into a structural display piece.
