Where it came from
Released in 2006, this set was part of the short-lived LEGO Batman theme, which marked the company's first foray into the DC Comics license. The set was designed to capture a stylized, high-speed chase dynamic, reflecting the pulp-inspired aesthetic that defined the initial wave of these collaborative DC sets. It aimed to provide a play-oriented experience by pairing Batman's dragster with a motorcycle for Catwoman, utilizing the bold color schemes that characterized the theme's early design language.
The set was conceived during a period when LEGO was aggressively expanding its licensed portfolio, bridging the gap between classic comic book iconography and the company's signature building system. While the theme faced initial scrutiny for its departure from traditional sets, it ultimately gained traction among collectors for its unique minifigure designs and specialized vehicle builds. Over time, the set has become a touchstone for fans of the early 2000s LEGO era, representing a distinct stylistic chapter before the company fully transitioned to the more unified DC Super Heroes aesthetic.
