Where it came from
Released in 2017 as part of the extensive tie-in wave for The LEGO Batman Movie, set 70916 represents the Batwing as envisioned for the film's stylized, high-energy aesthetic. The design team sought to capture the vehicle's signature delta-wing profile while incorporating the movie's signature mix of dark, utilitarian military elements and exaggerated, playful proportions. It was created to provide fans with a substantial, feature-rich build that echoed the cinematic experience of Gotham City's reimagined caped crusader.
The set includes three minifigures—Batman, Robin, and Harley Quinn—each outfitted with thematic accessories designed to reflect their appearances in the animated feature. The model itself features adjustable wings for flight and landing modes, along with a multi-mode shooter system that offers various play functions. Upon its debut, the set was noted for its display potential and the complexity of its wing-folding mechanism, standing as one of the larger and more intricate vehicles within the expansive movie-themed collection.
