Where it came from
Released in 2006 as part of the initial wave of the Lego Batman theme, this set represents a significant moment in the evolution of licensed Lego products. It was designed to capture the aesthetic of the 1989 Tim Burton film, marking the first time the company revisited this specific version of the Batwing in a dedicated build. The design emphasizes the iconic silhouette of the craft, incorporating a mechanical gear system that allows the wings to open and close, reflecting a shift toward more interactive features in sets from that period.
The model was designed to appeal to both adult collectors of film memorabilia and children engaged with the burgeoning DC Super Heroes line. It is frequently cited by enthusiasts for its structural integrity and the inclusion of exclusive minifigures for Batman and the Joker, which helped solidify the set's reputation within the collector community. Over the years, it has become a touchstone for those documenting the transition of the Batman theme from its experimental beginnings into a long-standing pillar of the Lego catalogue.
