Where it came from
Released in 2016, The End Portal (set 21124-1) was part of the early wave of the LEGO Minecraft theme, which sought to translate the blocky, voxel-based aesthetics of the sandbox video game into physical building sets. The design team focused on replicating the iconic architecture of the game's dimension-hopping end-game structure, utilizing a modular, hinged construction that allowed builders to unfold the model to reveal the hidden stronghold interior.
The set was designed to capture the high-stakes narrative of the player's quest to reach 'The End' and battle the Ender Dragon. It features unique minifigures, including Steve with enchanted armor, and a brick-built Ender Dragon that captures the creature's menacing, angular silhouette. Upon its release, the set was noted for its functionality and ability to recreate specific gameplay scenarios, appealing to both long-time Minecraft players and collectors of the LEGO theme.
