Where it came from
Released in 2016 as part of the Lego Minecraft theme, The Iron Golem set 21123-1 represents a pivotal transition period for the line as it expanded to include more intricate, brick-built recreations of the game's iconic mobs. The set was designed to capture the blocky, utilitarian aesthetic of the source material while providing an interactive experience that included a functional pop-up attack feature, allowing fans to reenact the defensive behaviors of Golems within the game environment.
The design team focused on maintaining the simplistic, modular geometry inherent to Minecraft's art style, utilizing a combination of standard bricks and tiles to achieve the Golem's rigid posture. Upon its release, the set was well-received by the community for its accurate representation of the mob and its inclusion of a rare Alex minifigure, which helped solidify its place in a collection as a bridge between the smaller scale micro-worlds and the larger-scale building kits.
