Where it came from
Released in 2016 as part of the LEGO Nexo Knights theme, the Fortrex 70317 served as the central mobile fortress for the heroic Nexo Knights. The theme was conceived as a multi-platform property that blended traditional building sets with a digital app, encouraging players to collect virtual powers by scanning shields found on physical models. Its design features a futuristic, knight-inspired aesthetic that combines medieval castle architecture with high-tech, tank-like components.
The model was designed to offer a dynamic play experience, featuring a folding design that transforms the fortress into a rolling base. As a centerpiece of the initial Nexo Knights wave, it received attention for its innovative, non-traditional take on castle sets. The reception was generally favorable among the building community, who appreciated the unique color scheme and the complex mechanical engineering required to integrate the rolling treads with the castle walls.
