Where it came from
Released in 2017 by DK Publishing to coincide with the theatrical debut of The LEGO Batman Movie, this official companion book offers a comprehensive behind-the-scenes look at the film's production. It was commissioned to provide fans with deep insight into the creative choices made by the animation team at Animal Logic and the production staff at Warner Animation Group as they transitioned the blocky aesthetic of the LEGO universe into a high-octane cinematic experience.
The book features extensive interviews with the film’s director, Chris McKay, and the production team, documenting the intricate process of digital brick-building and character design. It explores the satirical nature of the script and how the artists meticulously replicated the look of physical plastic bricks through computer-generated imagery. The work was widely praised upon release for its high-quality imagery and its success in detailing the complex technical craftsmanship required to animate an entirely LEGO-based world.
