Where it came from
The LEGO Play Book, published by DK in 2013, emerged during a period of concerted effort by the LEGO Group to expand its instructional and inspirational literature for adult and younger builders alike. Designed as a comprehensive guide, the book moves beyond standard set-based instructions to showcase techniques for building various models, including houses, vehicles, and creatures. It was conceived as a creative toolkit meant to inspire users to utilize their existing bricks for open-ended construction.
The publication was developed with contributions from several prominent members of the LEGO fan community, including professional builders and master modelers. By featuring modular builds and specific tips on color, scale, and assembly, the design team aimed to demystify complex building aesthetics. Upon its release, the book was well received for its clear photography and its focus on fostering imagination, successfully positioning itself as a staple resource for enthusiasts looking to broaden their building repertoire.
