Where it came from
The LEGO Power Functions Idea Book, Vol. 2: Cars and Contraptions, written by Yoshihito Isogawa and published by No Starch Press in 2015, serves as a practical manual for builders looking to integrate motors, battery boxes, and sensors into their projects. It was created to provide a visual, non-verbal guide that transcends language barriers, focusing on the mechanical principles of motion rather than step-by-step instructions. Isogawa, a renowned LEGO enthusiast, intended for the book to function as a reference library for complex gear systems, steering mechanisms, and various kinetic applications.
The design of the book centers on high-quality color photography of specialized, modular models. By prioritizing visual demonstrations over lengthy text, the volume allows readers to study the structural relationships between individual pieces directly. Since its release, the book has been well-received within the technical LEGO community, often cited as a definitive resource for hobbyists and educators interested in functional engineering through plastic building systems.
