Where it came from
Released in 2014 as part of the LEGO The Hobbit theme, The Lonely Mountain (79018-1) was designed to capture the climactic confrontation within the treasure-filled halls of Erebor. This set was produced to coincide with the release of the film The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, offering fans a detailed recreation of the dragon Smaug's lair, complete with golden treasure elements and the intricate stonework of the dwarven kingdom.
The set is particularly notable for its large, highly articulated Smaug dragon figure, which remains one of the most significant molded creatures LEGO has produced for the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit licenses. The design team focused on balancing playability with the imposing scale of the dragon, utilizing unique wing pieces and a detailed head sculpt that captured the menace of the character as portrayed on screen.
