Where it came from
The Little Mermaid Story Book (43213-1) was released in 2023 as part of the LEGO Disney Princess theme, designed to coincide with the release of the live-action reimagining of the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale. The set utilizes the 'story book' format, a distinct sub-line of micro-scale, folding playsets intended for portable, imaginative play that captures key narrative beats within a compact, self-contained structure.
The design focuses on three distinct micro-environments representing scenes from the film, including Prince Eric’s castle, Ariel’s treasure cave, and Ursula’s lair. It features specialized micro-dolls to maintain the scale of the small footprint, reflecting the design philosophy of creating accessible, display-oriented builds for younger fans that emphasize character-driven storytelling over complex structural engineering.
