Where it came from
The Melon Farm, set 21138-1, was released by the LEGO Group in 2018 as part of the Minecraft theme. This set was designed to capture the agricultural and survival gameplay loop of the popular sandbox video game, providing fans with a miniature representation of a melon-patch build complete with the iconic blocky aesthetic that defines the franchise. Its creation followed the ongoing partnership between LEGO and Mojang, aiming to translate digital environments into tactile, modular play experiences that encourage construction and roleplay.
The design of the set focuses on the utilitarian architecture found in early-game Minecraft, featuring a small structure, a river, and a farm plot that allows for the 'harvesting' of melons through a simple play function. It includes a Steve minifigure, a villager, and a pig, staying true to the game's distinct, pixelated design language. Upon release, it was well-received by younger fans and collectors of the Minecraft series for its accessibility and the inclusion of specific functional mechanics that mimic the automated farm builds frequently seen in the game's online community.
