Where it came from
Released in 2013 as part of the LEGO Star Wars Planet Series, this set features a miniature-scale TIE Bomber paired with a buildable Asteroid Field. The series was designed to provide fans with iconic vehicles from the Star Wars universe at an accessible price point, often pairing a small ship with a planetary display sphere that could be hung for decoration. The design emphasizes compact construction, utilizing micro-scale building techniques to replicate the distinct silhouette of the bomber despite its limited piece count.
The set captures a pivotal moment from The Empire Strikes Back, specifically the pursuit of the Millennium Falcon through the Hoth asteroid field. LEGO designers aimed to evoke the cinematic tension of this sequence by including a detailed, segment-based asteroid model alongside the ship. Upon its release, the set was well-received by collectors who appreciated the return of the TIE Bomber, a craft that has historically appeared less frequently in LEGO’s larger scale sets than its standard TIE fighter counterpart.
