Where it came from
The 601-2 Tow Truck was released by Lego in 1975 as part of the Lego Dacta educational line, which was specifically designed for use in schools and child development centers. During this era, Lego was expanding its reach into formal pedagogical tools, aiming to provide durable, versatile sets that encouraged spatial reasoning and motor skill development in a classroom setting.
The design of the 601-2 reflects the simplified, utilitarian aesthetic characteristic of mid-1970s Lego sets. By focusing on essential geometric forms and a primary color palette, the designers emphasized functionality and structural clarity over the intricate detailing seen in later hobbyist sets. It remains a notable piece for collectors interested in the evolution of Lego's educational initiatives during the company's mid-century expansion.
