Where it came from
Released in 1984 under the Legoland theme, the Town Figures set 6002-1 was designed as a supplement for existing city layouts. At a time when Lego minifigures were becoming more expressive and varied, this set provided a simple way for collectors to populate their brick-built environments with diverse characters including police officers, firemen, and civilians, rather than focusing on complex vehicle or building construction.
The set reflects the minimalist design philosophy of early 1980s Lego, prioritizing playability and thematic expansion over intricate building techniques. While the figures themselves are standard for the era, the release was well-received by builders of the time for its utility in 'fleshing out' city scenes, serving as a functional tool for narrative play within the broader Town sub-theme.
