Where it came from
The LEGO Town House, set number 560-1, was released in 1978 as part of the nascent LEGO Town theme. During this era, LEGO transitioned from simple, block-based structures to the modern minifigure-scale system, and the Town House served as one of the essential architectural building blocks that defined suburban layouts of the time. It reflected a shift toward domestic realism in play, providing a recognizable residential dwelling that complemented the street scenes being established by the company.
Designed during a pivotal period for the brand, the set utilized basic masonry brick elements to convey a classic aesthetic. The design focused on modular functionality, allowing children to integrate the house into larger city displays. While it lacked the complex techniques found in contemporary modular buildings, it was received as a versatile staple for collectors and children alike, setting a design precedent for the standardized dimensions that would eventually characterize the entire Town product line.
