Where it came from
The LEGO Town Hall, released in 2012 as set 10224, represents the centerpiece of the Modular Buildings series. It was designed by LEGO designer Astrid Graabæk to serve as a grand municipal building that could act as the administrative heart of a fan-constructed city. The set was created to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Modular series, incorporating architectural details inspired by early 20th-century neoclassical design, such as an ornate facade, a functioning elevator, and a detailed interior including a mayor's office and a wedding registry room.
Upon its release, the Town Hall was highly regarded for its sheer scale and the sophisticated building techniques employed to achieve its curved architectural features and clock tower. It marked a transition point in the modular line, emphasizing a larger, more imposing footprint compared to its predecessors. Collectors praised the set for its aesthetic cohesion and the variety of building parts included, establishing it as a definitive high-water mark for the theme until its retirement in 2014.
