Where it came from
The 271-2 Traffic Police Set was released by LEGO in 1974 as part of the early Legoland Town series. This era of the company's history was defined by the transition toward more modular, buildable city life themes, moving away from the simpler, single-piece vehicle designs of the late 1960s. The set was created to provide children with a foundational role-play element, emphasizing the civic order of the bustling miniature towns they were encouraged to construct.
Designed during a period of experimentation with aesthetics, the set features a rudimentary car and a small traffic officer figure, though it predates the modern minifigure. The design reflects the minimalist aesthetic of the mid-1970s, utilizing a basic color palette of white, black, and red to ensure visual cohesion within the broader Town theme. It remains a notable piece for collectors interested in the evolution of scale and character integration prior to the introduction of the iconic articulated LEGO figure in 1978.
