Where it came from
The 1271-2 Traffic Police Set was released in 1978 as part of the early Legoland town series, a period marked by the transition to the iconic minifigure design. It was produced to expand the playability of the burgeoning city layouts, providing essential emergency service elements that allowed builders to populate their streets with functional, structured roles.
The set reflects the utilitarian design language of late 1970s toy sets, characterized by a simple color palette and reliance on basic bricks to form recognizable landmarks like the traffic signal. While individual designers for these early small-box sets were rarely credited publicly, the series was well-received for its modularity and for grounding the fantastical elements of the town theme in the relatable reality of municipal infrastructure.
