Where it came from
The LEGO Tropical Fish set, designated 40246-1, was released as a seasonal promotional item. It emerged during a period when the brand was expanding its reach into smaller, impulse-buy sets that featured charming, character-driven builds rather than elaborate play features. These sets were designed to serve as accessible entry points for new builders or as decorative desk pieces for established enthusiasts, reflecting the company's broader push toward versatile, lifestyle-oriented products.
The design of the set focuses on minimalist aesthetics, utilizing a modest piece count to capture the distinct silhouette of a tropical fish. While the specific designer remains uncredited—as is standard for smaller promotional polybags and promotional sets—the build utilizes a bright color palette to maximize visual appeal despite the limited scale. Upon its release, it was received positively by the community as a cheerful, low-cost addition to the LEGO collection, prized specifically for its vibrant color choice and effective use of limited bricks.
