Where it came from
Released in 2019 as part of the LEGO Duplo Town theme, the Tropical Island set was designed to introduce toddlers to diverse animal figures and early concepts of environmental care. The set features a blend of natural habitats, including a wooden-style bridge and a small waterfall, intended to encourage open-ended roleplay and fine motor skill development in children aged two to five.
The aesthetic of the set follows the signature chunky, brightly colored design language established by the Duplo line to ensure safety and ease of use for small hands. It was well-received by parents and educators for its inclusion of unique molded figures, such as the sea turtle and the monkey, which expanded the educational utility of the Duplo ecosystem beyond basic building blocks.
